Hello, I recently started testing livekit, and we have a session that seems to have gotten stuck as active, but we have no more participants in it.

 ![Screenshot 2026-05-15 at 11.16.31 AM](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex001/uploads/livekit2/original/2X/b/b9a1f9c5e90ebe511dd88d29e063e8ebef343ad9.png)

I’ve tried calling deleteRoom from the SDK with a manual API curl, and it says thaat room could not be found. I also call listRooms and it won’t show.

Does anyone know how we can close it?

@Daniel_Alvarado, the terminology gap is doing most of the work here. The Cloud “Sessions” dashboard is an `observability/historical` view, not the live room state. If `listRooms` returns nothing and `deleteRoom` says the room doesn’t exist, the actual SFU room is already gone. What’s “stuck active” is the dashboard’s view of the session record.

> Most likely cause: an egress (or ingress) job still attached to that session hasn’t finalized, so the dashboard keeps it marked active until that job completes. Run `lk egress list` and check for anything still in `EGRESS_ACTIVE` or `EGRESS_ENDING` referencing that room. Stop it with `lk egress stop <egress_id>` if so.

If no egress is hung and the display stays active past 10-15 minutes, it’s likely a dashboard rendering issue on Cloud’s side. Ping @CWilson or @darryncampbell at that point.

Hi @Daniel_Alvarado , please see this FAQ:

> [@Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)](https://community.livekit.io/t/frequently-asked-questions-faq/46/18):
>
> Why does my session still show as ACTIVE on my dashboard, even though the session is over? The data displayed on the dashboard is not real-time and there will be a delay between your session closing, and the session showing as closed on the dashboard. For an accurate picture of which sessions are currently active, you can use the [LiveKit CLI](https://docs.livekit.io/intro/basics/cli/), lk room list , which will return a list of active sessions. If your room shows in this list, the session is still active but can be closed by [deleting th…](https://docs.livekit.io/intro/basics/rooms-participants-tracks/rooms/#delete-a-room)

Hey guys, not sure if you did anything last time, but right after you responded, shortly after the two sessions that were hung ended. However, it is happening to us again. Not sure if we’re doing anything wrong when it comes to closing or ending meetnigs. But this will eat up our egress and participantt minutes.

Here are two examples where on code I try calling room close, but I get that the room does not exist. And those are the two room names that have been live for 1,200+ minutes.

@Daniel_Alvarado, Glad to hear the original diagnosis cleared the first sessions. The new instance (1,200+ min in the dashboard, `deleteRoom` returning “`room does not exist`”) confirms the same shape: the SFU rooms are already gone (the 404 from deleteRoom is the authoritative signal), and what’s stuck is the dashboard’s session record.

Your code path is correct. The `deleteRoom 404` just means there’s nothing left to delete on the SFU side, which is also why `listRooms` shows nothing.

@Daniel_Alvarado sorry about that, I think the dashboard was updating a bit slower the other day as we also had a few similar reports:

> Hi LiveKit Support Team, I wanted to report a UI bug I encountered in the LiveKit dashboard today. I noticed that one of my sessions (RM\_XZYnWzNX7Fms) was showing as ACTIVE on the Sessions list page with a continuously increasing duration counter (it reached 184+ minutes). However, when I clicked into the session detail page, it clearly showed the session had already ended at 7:29:26 PM on May 25, 2026, with a total duration of only 2 minutes. That would have just been coincidence, but apologies for the inconvenience.
