Does LiveKit support SIP providers that use trunk registration (REGISTER)?

This question originally came up in our Slack community and the thread has been consolidated here for long-term reference.

I want to connect LiveKit with a SIP provider (VoIP Unlimited) but I can’t find where to configure the origination URI. The provider seems to use trunk registration.

Is there a way to connect with SIP providers that use REGISTER?

LiveKit does not support REGISTER for SIP trunking.

You need to use a SIP provider that supports trunk-based authentication (using origination URIs) rather than registration-based authentication.

Look at setup guides for providers like Twilio to see what configuration is needed on the SIP provider side.
