Hey guys, i’ve been working with livekit for some time now, intending to replace vapi and retell usage that costs more and also restricts the models and stack being used. I wanted to know if there is an open source alternative for those services that is based on livekit. Would like to hear about relevant directions or even spin up the project myself with the help of the community, with the aim of making a livekit based vapi\retell alternative for self deployment.
saw dograh or smth like that, but they too much bot spamming reddit so i mean that tells alot bout htem. also what is the problem of grabing all template repos built on livekit, theres plenty of them on github
Not sure about this, I think currently, there is no mature open-source and self-hostable alternative to Vapi/Retell that’s built on top of LiveKit. However, it is possible to utilize the LiveKit Agents as the underlying runtime and build your own orchestration layer on top of it. The current alternatives such as Pipecat and other open-source voice agents are incomplete. So, the gap is open for building a declarative and config-based system similar to Vapi’s agent definitions with strong observability and workflow control.
