Introducing per-second metering for LiveKit

It’s now less expensive to build and run agents on LiveKit.

Agent session minutes and recording, WebRTC connections, and SIP connections are now billed per-second with a ten second minimum increment. This applies to every plan and account, including enterprise contracts, and there’s nothing to change in your code. You’ll just see a bill that more closely reflects what you actually used.

Per-minute billing works fine for inbound support calls, which usually run a minute or two while an agent solves a problem. Outbound is a different story. Sometimes you reach the wrong person. Sometimes you reach an answering machine. Those calls last seconds, but per-minute billing charges you for a full minute anyway.

That means scaling outbound gets limited by billing structure rather than by anything technical. Per-second metering removes that mismatch, so you can build agents with narrow, specialized roles without paying for minutes you never use.

This is already live. It’ll show up in your September bill for August usage.
